Also remember that all organic produce have a higher nutrient density -- the fruits and vegetables, etc. all have lived a longer life and matured naturally while absorbing from soils rich in minerals and free of chemicals --> this means less empty calories and a healthier, stronger, and more energetic you. Non-organic produce could mean genetically modified foods; the seeds are literally lab-created and designed to grow faster and bigger, are exposed to chemical pesticides and soils, then in some cases like tomatoes they are gassed to accelerate the ripening process.

Re: KNOWING YOUR MASSAGES

Massage therapy is a great re-source for recovering faster from any work-out sessions. But- exactly what is mentioned above, it’s what massage treatment is best for
“Post work-outs?” Understanding some info about different types of massages is a must, but more importantly, is learning more information of who’s performing the massage. For instance; what qualifications, credentials, board certifications, CEU (continuing education units), licensure, did the therapist achieve to say they know “how” to perform, in this, case “sports” massage?

Keep in mind that it is very easy to hurt someone in any kind of massage if the practitioner did not meet high standards in the massage field. Massage therapists are not just rubbing muscles; they are manipulating the education of the muscles that they are currently sitting in, the lymphatic systems flow, blood circulation, scar tissue, pathologies, and much more. If you get a massage and you did not get assessed, properly, before the treatment, you are playing with fire and you may leave the place in more pain than going in and have more problems down the road.

Sports massage is a medical/orthopedic modality. It should not be on the menu at local spas, but in the state of New Jersey, massage has not too long ago, been regulated, and has made it very simple for someone to become a massage therapist. Look up the standards in Florida. Look up the standards in New York or Canada and you will find that certain states or countries are far higher standard in this type of therapy because it is very important that the massage therapist must KNOW what they are doing before doing it. Just because they took a week of sports massage in a school does NOT make it so, they can perform sports massage. Just because a therapist learned “trigger point” in one CEU class, does not make it that they can properly perform it.

I highly recommend getting massages for “post-work outs.” I highly recommend getting massages for injury management or injury prevention. I ultimately recommend getting these massages from a practitioner who has gained notification as being a specialist such as; a Rolfer (SI), NMT (neuro-muscular therapist), or NCTMB (National Board Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork) along with state licensing. There are levels to massage therapists just as there are levels to physical therapist such as; PTA (physical therapist assistant), MSPT (Master of physical therapy), and DPT (Doctor of physical therapy). In massage there are MT (massage therapist, normally states that are unregulated), CMT (certified massage therapist, normally states that just require massage school completion), LMT (licensed massage therapist, ones who must have competed school of at least 500hr and obtain 24 ceu every 2yrs), NCTMB (those who must have completed school of 500hrs, passed the board exam controlled by the nursing board, and obtain 48 ceu every 4yrs) and RMT ( registered massage therapist, those who went to school for over 3000hrs, passed the NCETMB, and are licensed).

If you ask me it’s more important to learn about the practitioner than about the massage. Make sure you are safe before getting on the table. I have spoken to about 8 out of 10 people who have been hurt more in spas for massages and no longer like getting them because of this. As a result I had to re-educate them to invite them on my table and 9 out of 10, the clients have never felt a massage the way we do it at Body Solutions Inc in Voorhees.

Here’s my tip: Be safe when getting a massage, question the therapist and evaluate them on the credentials. I will only get massages from someone who is a LMT with the NCTMB cert. or a certified Rolfer (SI) for body alignments, or a RMT, because I know they have met high standards in the massage field. If you are just looking to get “relaxed”, generally and have money, then maybe the spa is the way to go, but not the way to go for long term results.

All in Wellness,

Victor Lopez, LMT (state of FL), NCTMB
www.Body Solutions Inc.com, Voorhess, NJ
Re: Weekly Motivation 12/20

DEDICATION.
